About

Hi there!    I am Kate.  Born in Sydney, Australia I am now based in Italy.   I’m married to an Italian named Massimiliano who I met in Manarola, while I was travelling – that’s us in the second photo. We live together with our son,  in the village of Biassa above the Gulf of La Spezia and on the periphery of the Cinque Terre in Liguria.  This is a collection of stories, thoughts, photographs, and recipes inspired (mostly) by the environment I have found myself in.  Also, other ideas that are on my mind.

I’m writing under the Italian website name “una bella mescolata”, the English translation, a good stir.  I’m fond of this title as I lean toward pot stirring – mostly in a literal sense but sometimes, more of the feather ruffling variety.

Although a few of the recipes might be my Kate creations, by and large, they aren’t original.  I’m a self taught home cook, not a recipe developer (although wouldn’t that be cool?).  Wherever possible, I reference my sources, but sometimes I just don’t know them.  When a recipe has come to me via a friend, neighbour, cousin, stranger at the bus stop, doctor’s waiting room etc. or, when they just seems to be known, crediting the creator leaves me lost.

The thoughts, for better or for worse are original.

So, see what you think. Oh, and don’t be shy about reaching out, and connecting via email or sharing my posts.
